Challange

Odor and oil mist from cutting fluids
The old open machines used 15 years ago generated large amounts of oil mist that remained around the machines. The smell of cutting fluid lingered in the air, and the working environment was quickly affected. When JMT upgraded its machine park to modern enclosed milling machines with high speeds (18–24,000 rpm), the challenges also changed. With the high speeds and feeds, the cutting fluid breaks down more and the cabin quickly becomes foggy.

“Now there’s oxygen in the air – you’re more alert all day” – Employee at JMT

Previously, we used fans to extract air from the machines. This worked well, but we suffered from constant pressure changes in the room due to the varying number of machines that were active.

With the new system, everything is controlled automatically. When the machines start up, the system revs up and more fresh air enters the premises to maintain the balance between supply and exhaust air. When the machines have finished running, the system slows down again and returns to a basic ventilation flow. This gives us a good working environment without odors and with energy savings.

We noticed a clear difference when we implemented Absolent’s solution. One operator said that he is no longer tired in the afternoon. That says a lot.

JMT first came into contact with Absolent at Ravema Expo 2023. After comparing other suppliers, the choice ultimately fell on Absolent – largely thanks to the comprehensive solution that included both local exhaust ventilation and general ventilation. It was not a quick decision – it took a few months to decide, and the project grew into a larger investment. But it was worth it.

– Only Absolent could offer everything we needed. We were also able to visit a reference facility and borrow a filter unit to test in our own environment. That was decisive for our decision, says Peter.

Solution

Today, four Amist 80C filters are installed, with the option of easily connecting more units as the machine park grows. It is a turnkey solution, installed without disrupting production.

– Absolent delivered all the way. It worked incredibly well from planning to installation and commissioning, says Peter.

Installation began in February and the facility was commissioned in March. The solution is also linked to heat recovery, which provides energy savings and better climate control – an added bonus at a time when energy efficiency is a high priority.

Results

At JMT, sustainability is not just about emissions and energy consumption, but also about caring for our employees. A clean and healthy working environment is an important value in our corporate culture.

– We want to be an attractive employer. It should be a good place to work, that’s part of our core values, concludes Peter
